[INFO] What to do when updated to version 2.4.0

We are currently using a 2.4.2 compatible core!

Before you try again, those who also play on retail are advised to make a extra copy of their wowclient and use that one to play here.
And note that you should never start Wow using the default shortcut in your startmenu / desktop (it will automaticly download and install new updates)

1) Go to your World of Warcraft\Data folder ( usually c:\program files\world of warcraft\Data\ )
2) Delete the file 'patch.mpq'
3) Go up one directory ( usually c:\program files\world of warcraft\ )
4) Start repair.exe and select 'Check files only'
5) It will take a little while to finally find patch.mpq missing. When it does it will tell you it has to fix it.
6) Once it is done, you will be back at 2.0.0.
7) Update all required patches to 2.3.3 (most likely they are still in you wow folder, if not download them again)
8) Edit your realmlist.wtf and startup using wow.exe ( usually c:\program files\world of warcraft\wow.exe )

We do not have a ETA when we are ready for 2.4, it will be there eventually.
Untill then we will be only supporting client 2.3.3!

It says if I use the retail servers as well, I should make a copy of the wow client. I dont know what a client is.

this method doesnt work anymore. If you uninstall the patch and reinstall it, the game will automatically patch it to 2.4. Any other ways of getting in? Or are you going to update to 2.4 soon?

ok this is getting frustrating  i have done everything that is suggested by triggs  also reinstalled from  scratch  the  whole system installed wow from fresh
 the problem is when it  starts  its patch downloads  it skips 2.33 and jumps straight  to 2.40 even if you use the wow file as suggested it say cant invalidate program contact blizzard looks like i will be off wowrage till it upgrades to 2.4.0   i hope its soon  miss u guys

You forgot that step (dont use the default shortcut on you desktop / start menu!)

if u wanna to repatch to 2.3.3 patch u have to go to your paste DATA and and delete the file «patch.MPQ.temp» it sends u back to version 2.1.0


u also have to do the patch 2.3.0

lol, whats the fuzz ? the back up is simple, delete WoW.exe in wow directory and then run repair.exe
I use this technique for years and everytime it went fine
